Are You Happy To Recieve A Pair Of Counterfeit Sennheiser PX200
Sennheiser PX200 problem is far worse than I thought.

Now We can see what’s what. Unfortunately a colleague of mine bought these from an Amazon seller for…. just over £15. She’s in the process of sending them back. Yes that’s right, AMAZON, not EBAY!
“But the seller had 100% positive feedback!”
Lou said a few times “But the seller had 100% positive feedback!” But her first impression was to email the seller and ask if the PX200 comes with a case, which we all (should) know they do. Lou then emailed the seller again asking for a refund. When I saw her last night, Lou said that she’d email just before work and so she hadn’t received a reply.

Here’s what you need to L@@K for in the feedback.
1) L@@K at the products ordered. The seller might also sell DVD’s, clothes, dog biscuits, anything.
2) Consider that 100% positive feedback doesn’t mean the product is 100%. For example: I ordered a cheap Sony MP3 player from a seller on ebay. I hooked the Sony to my Mac, and like the iAudio F2 it doesn’t work. But the seller emailed me 5 times to help me out, give me suggestions etc. HERE’S THE RUB: THE PRODUCT DOESN’T WORK, HOWEVER, DOES THAT MEAN THE SELLER WILL GET BAD FEEDBACK FROM ME? HECK NO, BECAUSE THEY’VE BEEN VERY HELPFUL. So, Just because most people won’t know a pair of fake headphones from the genuine thing, that’s not the issue. The service from the seller might be very good. Shipping might be very fast. The seller might be very helpful in answering emails quickly. All these thing will count towards a positive feedback whether the item is fake or not. So be careful. L@@K at what’s being ordered from the seller. L@@K for similar products and see if there are any complaints.
YOU CAN’T SKIP THE SELLER FEEDBACK ANYMORE. THINK ABOUT THE COMMENTS YOU’RE READING.

My Sennheiser PX200 At this point my Sennheiser PX200’s that I paid £39.99 for, are half way around the world. My editor at headphonedeals has them, but I do have a few pictures that I can compare them with. Lets see what’s what. On with Lou’s story of her fake PX200’s. Lets see what she got for her money. Pictures
I don’t know much about the box, but I do know that for the most part, sellers will display a regular picture of the headphones, not the box. So for the time being, it’ll be hard to spot these as counterfeit.

Can you see anything missing? This is where we find out that they are definite fakes. There’s no plastic carry case with them! The PX100 (below) actually came in their cases. I bought these from an Orange shop in Preston where I go to university. I didn’t get them from the internet.

Now we’ll move on to the shocking build quality and other aspects of these counterfeit PX200 headphones so you can see if you’ve got a pair of fakes.
The ‘Sennheiser’ logo is skew whiffed. It’s not straight .

In fact the whole logo is skew whiffed. The whole ‘Sennheiser’ logo dips in the middle. Do you really think a professional, multi million dollar, world renowned company like Sennheiser would tolerate such a mistake? No, neither do I. These are fake.

These fakes suffer form what I know as the Ultrasone iCans syndrome (below). Meaning that the whole headband is squared off. The real PX200’s are curved, these are squared off. It’s a fake folks!

There’s no direct problem with the ear cups, however, the plastic felt really cheap. I know you can’t see from the picture, but they do feel cheap.

Another big build quality shock was the unevenness of the ear pads.
Unevenness: Can you see the padding, and the ear pad material? The material is stretched one side, so there are no creases, yet on the other side, there are creases where the padding is uneven.

Size of the padding: Below is my picture of my genuine PX200 headphones with the iCans. Now, compare it with the fakes above, can you see the difference? The size of the counterfeit PX200’s ear pads are huge. The gap that allows the sound to come out is very small on the fakes. The Genuine PX200’s padding is thinner around the edges. And also the padding is even, there’s no stretching of the ear pad material!

More pictures of the uneven ear pads: This is another view of the uneven ear pads. Can you see how uneven they are? This is not in keeping with with the real thing.

As far as the jack is concerned from the info I’ve got, there’s no real difference, that’s worth mentioning. Anyway I think you’ve got enough to go on here. So it’s down to you to start to check out if you’ve bought a pair of fakes. I have to say that £15 isn’t a bad price for the PX200’s, I bought my PX100 for that out of a shop.

Good news for Lou!
After a quick word and a trial on a few headphones, Lou settled for a pair of AKG K518’s headphones. They are a little bigger, but the performance is far, far better than the PX200’s. Not to say that the PX200’s are bad, but the PX100’s usually steal all the attention away form the PX200’s.
PX200 Alternatives
The first headphones that spring to mind are the JBL Reference 410 headphones. But if you live UK then maybe you should look at the AKG K 518 headphones, which I’ve ordered from PlanetGizmo this time around, for Lou. The will out blast the PX’s away, and right now there’s a 25% reduction. You could also try ebay for a pair of AKG K 81’s which are the older version of the K518’s. The changes are cosmetic, regardless of what the marketing stuff says.
Let me know what you think. Leave a comment of your experiences or any other inforamtion you feel might help people from buying fake PX200’s.

Okay so this fake unit came from an independent seller on Amazon; but the question now burning me is whether or not we can still trust to buy authentic merchandise from Amazon.com I bought my AKG from Amazon directly and still haven’t received them yet… Amazon should be a trustworthy site no???
There’s a yes and no answer to this question. Let me give my point of view. I think that ‘amazon’ themselves are reliable, although you will get the odd unsatisfied customer, like yourself, who’s waiting for your product.
But, there is a difference between buying from ‘amazon’ and buying from a seller on amazon!
To a certain degree amazon is a fulfilment house, meaning, they take the order and the detail of the customer and send it on to the seller. Now, that’s a very basic way of looking at amazon.
Sure, out of the thousand of orders they receive everyday, I would expect the occasional hiccup in shipping etc.
The thing is however, the only real difference between amazon and ebay is that ebay you bid, amazon you don’t. The same sellers on amazon show up on ebay and visa versa. So all those that are terrified of ebay, you shouldn’t be, no more than most other merchants.
I’ve just bought another pair of AKG K518 from amazon with no problems. I got them via Planet Gizmo.
The first question is:
1) Does your headphones, fall into the ‘fake’ category?
I’ve yet to come across fake JBL reference 410 headphones, or fake Equation Audio RP21’s of fake Westone UM1’s.
2) If you headphones do fall into the ‘fake’ category, then you need to be very careful where you buy them.
Personally, and this is a personal opinion, now, I would only buy the Sennheiser CX300, Bose Triport IE’s and some models of Shure’s earphones, straight from the manufacturer. That way I can guarantee 100% authenticity. Now, that maybe me be overly cautious, but I think that there’s a need to be cautious.
Is it down to amazon to check up on every seller? Maybe, maybe not. I know that ebay at one stage had a bad name for doing nothing about unscrupulous sellers, but fakeheadphones.com serves to route these sellers out, to help educate people to find information that they might need to do that.
Yes, amazon should be trustworthy, but unfortunately it’s not amazon that’s the problem, it’s the sellers on amazon, that give amazon a bad name.

hello there! why i am very pleased with such brilliant help you have given us all on fake px200 headphones. i am an absolute audio enthusiast. i have a range of headphones and headphone amplifiers. now i want to ask a question that you may find stupid… but i will ask it anyway. is there a big difference in sound quality? i have many people giving bad press about these headphones and this maybe due to them having fakes… or maybe not….. do you still have the fakes and if so, do you know what micro drivers they are using under the hood of the ear piece? i have just ordered a pair of these headphones but in white from amazon themselves in the UK hence they shouldn’t be fake lol. did lou complain at all about this? thanks for your time and co-operation! i look forward in hearing from you. take care and all the best! reagrds jahangir malik
Good question, and unfortunately its one I can’t answer. The fake examples were here with me (UK) but the real PX200’s are thousands of miles away. My forum administrator has them:

Comments about ’sound quality being better than the real thing’ do arise a lot, but this is missing the point. The point is that by buying fake headphones, people are funding what is nothing less than a fraudulent business, and I do not want to be associated with that.
The only reason I buy fake headphones is to guide people away from fake headphones. I do have a pair of Fake CX300 but they are in white. I would like to do a comparison of my own in regards to fake CX300 earphones, but other projects have taken over.
I also want to get my hands on a pair of fake PX100’s to compare with the real thing. Maybe I could do that A.S.A.P. there nothing stopping me doing that, and its not as though its tough getting my hands on a pair of fake PX100’s.
I do want to do a sound test, I think its important to find out these things.
Tell you what; next month I’ll do a sound test between real and fake stuff. at the moment i’m moving house, so give me a few weeks.
Thanks for your interest and support and maybe we can put these Sound Quality issue to rest

I bought fake headphones too. I didn’t know it. I learnt that from service. I sent them there, because they were broken in left joining. I’m annoyed of that. I hope the seller will give me back my money. I bought them on czech analogy of ebay. But the seller bought them there…
Now the service gave mi offer.
1. They keep back headphones, give me discount 30% for new and will block the seller
2. They send me them back. And I can contact seller to give me my money back. I’ll probably do it. I wrote him email and we will see his answer…

Best way to spot a fake px200 is to look at the jack plug which must be smooth and the hinge screws should be poxidrive heads (phillips head)
Bought another for my daughter of ebay and compared it with my one
all of the above, pouch instead of case poorly fitted lables
good luck
