Sorry i’ve not updated for a while. I had a stint in hospital, when I should have been on holiday the Whinfell Forest Village centerparcs. I spent a few hours in the chalet, before being whisked off to Carlisle hospital at 2:15am in total agony. There to spend the next week on hospital whilst my wife and friends were enjoying them selves in the swimming pool. Anyway at least I had my Sennheiser PX100 plugged into the patientline service.

Anyway, this weeks Genuine Sennheiser… and things have been a bit thin on the ground for genuine stuff. But here’s a pair of Sennheiser PX100′s the real deal.

The other way to spot a pair of fake Sony MDR-EX90LP earphones from the real things is the same way you’d spot many other fakes from the real thing, and that’s price. Amazon, for example have them on offer for $65.99. Go to ebay and they’re going for peanuts.

The retail on the Sony’s are $99.99, so its good that amazon have them at $65.99. However at the sub $30-40 area on both amazon and ebay, alarm bells have to start ringing in your ears, surely! I can’t think that Sony are that generous, even with stock that is going out of date.

They’re praying on you and your hard earned money!

When it comes to the usual counterfeit suspects, let the price be a warning to you. There are many headphones that you can pick up for around half the price, bu they are headphones that no one copies. The small stuff, popular earphones and headphones like the Sennheiser PX100/200, like the Sennheiser CX300, like the Bose Triport IE earphones and like Sony earphones, these are popular and there are going to be lots of people offering you them at what seems to be a great deal. What you get are second rate, knock offs. And I don’t buy the “they sound better than the original.” comment either. I want you to buy the real thing, ’cause that’s where your money should be going…on the real thing.

How serious, are sites like amazon, on tackling counterfeit headphones?

James has left a very good comment about amazon, not allowing his comment to be shown.

l then tried to write a review on the Amazon website to warn others that they may be being duped into buying fake earphones but the review was never posted.

I think that in terms of Sennheiser (speaking about amazon.co.uk), your best bet is to stick with buying from amazon themselves. Always look for this:

This is the only Bang and Olufsen A8 earphones, that’s worth your hard earned!

Out of the few A8 earphones on ebay, this is the only one that I would suggest you bid for….if you want the real thing. There’s something good about saving and buying the real thing. That ‘feel good factor’ you only get by owning the real thing.

Please, Please do not bid on any Sennheiser PX100 or PX200 unless:

They have a (non standard) picture of the headphones and the plastic carrying case next to them.
Do not accept a standard picture like this;

As far as I can see (ebay.co.uk) this is the only genuine Sennheiser PX100 headphones available that I would stake Fakeheadphones’ reputation on at the moment. Click the image for more info. The seller offers worldwide shipping.

Of course there will be sellers trying to sell the real thing. However, you still need to be careful and you still need to look for the carrying case. I’m still trying to keep up with the counterfeit PX headphones, but a carrying case is a good sign that they are the real thing. Again, if in doubt, pony up the cash and buy from an authorized dealer.

You will see images like this (below), that’ll show the Sennheiser PX carrying case. The picture seems to be genuine and you can see the carrying case. That’s two points in this seller’s favor, however at this point i’m still not going to stake fakeheadphones’ reputation on saying that it 100% genuine. Once you’ve bought them you can always check the ‘Sennheiser logo’. Although the image is taken from Lou’s Sennheiser PX200 case study The ‘Sennheiser’ logo is often another giveaway to whether its real or fake
